Cockroach Control

Home Cockroach Control

Cockroaches contaminate food and spread diseases like dysentery and gastroenteritis. They are adaptive and coupled with their ability to breed rapidly they can be very difficult to control. A female cockroach recurrently lays eggs and the pests can survive without food for weeks on end. If you are looking to control cockroach infestation here is what you should consider.

Cockroach control

Inspection

  • Find out where they are harboured and identify their breeding grounds.
  • Popular hiding spots include behind the refrigerator, cracks in the shelves and cabinet corners.

Exclusion

  • Cockroaches are attracted to water. Reduce access to water by properly drying out dishes and drying off the sinks after washing.
  • Properly enclose or wrap food before storage

Treated baits

  • The baits are filled with a food substance sprayed with an insecticide. Cockroaches are attracted to the food and once they feed on it they crawl away to an assured death.
  • If the cockroaches drug the food to their hide out places other cockroaches will also die from the same.
  • The toxicant in the baits is not harmful to people and pets and for this reason cockroach baits are the most preferred method of killing cockroaches.

Boric acid

  • This is another efficient method of cockroach control and one dose of treatment can be effective for weeks to come.
  • When cockroaches crawl over a treated area they succumb to the toxicity of the powder.
  • The powder is used without any dilution or mixing
  • Since the powder has no specific odour and does not repel insects cockroaches repeatedly return to the treated are and die.

Dangers of cockroach infestation

  • Food poisoning; cockroaches are known to carry diseases causing agents like salmonella.
  • Food contaminated by cockroaches can result to diarrhoea.
  • The pests also cause allergies and breathing problems for asthmatic children

Conclusion

Only pest control professionals will know the right pesticide to use and how to effectively wipe out an infestation.
